Michael Moore = questionable or profane language?
A friend of mine is a junior high school teacher here in NY. She was on email to another friend talking about how Bowling for Columbine (which has an accompanying teachers guide / lesson plan) has just been designated as inappropriate teaching material by the NY board of education. In the email, which she sent from a computer at her school, wherever she typed 'Michael Moore' or 'Bowling for Columbine' the text was replaced with a [Removed: questionable or profane language] tag.
Now its one thing for the board of education to decide that it does not want kids studying Bowling for Columbine (it has an R rating for showing a scenes of actual gun violence)...but it seems pretty odd that they won't even allow this to be discussed in an email between a teacher and another adult.
What do you think?

It is a bit odd that they would filter Michael Moore as in the name itself but, everything goes through the same filters so I guess they don't want research or students looking him up while in school.

I really can´t thing of one good reason for that.
I can understand filtering web sites from student access. But deleting words in faculty e-mails? Dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

Could the filter be an inbound filter? See what happens if she sends it to herself.
