Microsoft eyes Google takeover

According to the New York Times, Microsoft approached Google within the last two months to discuss a partnership or the possibility of a takeover. Google, the popular Web search company, recently began holding meetings with bankers in preparation for its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO).

all i want to know is how much money do i have to donate to google to prevent this from ever, EVER happening?

    I hate microsoft

"executives and others briefed on the discussions, Microsoft - desperate to capture a slice of the popular and ad-generating search business - approached Google within the last two months to discuss options, including the possibility of a takeover.

While the overture appears to have gained little traction - Google indicated that it preferred the initial offering route, the executives said - it demonstrates the enormous importance that Google represents as both a competitive threat to Microsoft and as Silicon Valley's latest hope for a new financial boom."

not pleased if this ever happens

How long do you think it would take for Google's simple, clean home page to become a cluttered mess of news and advertising, with special features that only work with Internet Explorer on a Windows box? (That is, if Google via Microsoft works without IE and Windows at all.)

Definitively? When I heard the news this morning, it sounded like it was still a possibility.

exactly. i mean, microsoft lives and breathes off the fact that people cannot be strong enough to turn down a certain number of zeroes on a check. in bill's mind, everyone has a price...

the ipo scares me now. if ms can't buy them out before the ipo, then they could buy them out hostile-style after.

I think if MS did run the show google would turn into a unusable POS anyway, so you wouldn't really even need to decide God, I use google for everything, I dunno how I would live without it

I'd miss my google search bar in Safari, because you know Apple would pull the plug on that. And rightfully so.

I just heard on the news that the guys at google are simply not interested in selling to Microsoft, though there was no mention that they wouldn't sell to anyone else...

MS would also get Blogger with a Google takeover.

I've always thought that Google going public would be one of the worst things that could happen to them.
