database advise please.

Hello, I am wondering if anyone can recommend me a very simple database app. All I want to do is catalogue entries alphabetically. For example, if I come up with a genius idea of fixing the File Vault problem, I might enter it in "F" section. And I would like to be able to click "F" or search File Vault and come up with it on screen. Is there a free app that does this? This is preety simple stuff I want to do. Thanks in advance.
