Here's an excerpt from the article:

Hon Hai Precision Industries was also in the bidding to produce the new iMac, but its loss of that order would not stop it from producing monitors for the older iMacs, for which it previously held a contract, it said.

Reports put last year's shipments of those monitors at one million, with a further 800,000 to come this year.

  Isn´t that a bit pessimistic from Apple? Only 200.000 fewer CRT iMacs than last year. Of course the new iMac will generate more sales but I think it take a lot more sales from the old than a mere 20%.

Perhaps they want buy large/cheap and fill up their warehouse with CRTs to put in iMac Classic the next couple of years?

Well actually, Apple doesn't warehouse any parts, their outsourced companies do. These 800,000 CRTs to be used for classic iMacs are probably destined to schools and buyers outside the U.S. I suspect.

So Apple is expected a whole nother YEAR oujt of the old iMac design? Or more, if they're planning to only sell to schools and entry levels. Hmm.

I wonder- how many LCDs did they order? A million? What was it, a hundred thou a month? They need as many LCDs as potential new iMacs as possible.

Sounds like Apple's quietly expanded their product grid to THREE desktop systems (iMac G3, iMac, and PM) and THREE laptop systems (iBook, 14" iBook, and Powerbook). Hmm.
