Hot off /. - E-voting done right down under

So this Australian company makes their e-voting software open source, audited by multiple independent groups, and allows for printed voting receipts so that voters have a real paper trail. Contrast this with what American e-voting companies have developed: closed source, no paper trail audit, no independent audits.
Why so secretive? Why leave no paper trail? Why keep the code hidden? Our craptacular system here is primed for corruption...corruption that will be easily obfuscated from the general (stupid) voting public.
*in a mocking tone* god bless the usa.

Spot on BR.
The whole point about Democracy is that it's meant to about transparency in government..
That should start at the electoral booth.
If the USA had this in place before the last presidential campaign, I doubt whether Bush would have got into office...

And making the software "open source " would have major spin offs all round.
Who knows, real democracy...it might actually be getting closer...
