    thanks

You can probably do this through the finder. If you've got a supported burner (which you do b/c it works with iTunes), you can use the finder to burn data cds (which is essentially what an mp3 cd is). It's too bad iTunes doesn't allow hierarchical playlists so that you can burn with folders that way. :/

Personally, I use Toast for burning mp3 cds for my car. It works well. But it's not free.

Burning through the finder is as easy, if not easier than, burning through toast. Just stick your blank cd in, tell it to open in the finder, find the folders you want to burn and drag them over to the cd in the sidebar (you are using panther, right? If not the process isn't much different). You'll have to ask someone else where to get toast.

i dont know why u would assume im using panther, im not that quick to upgrading. i have 10.2.6. im kinda baffled as to how i drag the files to the cd. how do i open up a window to display the cd contents? in windows, you just open up my comp and double click on the cdrom drive, but i have no idea how to in mac land.

Burning CDs through the Finder is the same in Jaguar and Panther.

As soon as you insert the CD-R, if it is recognized by your drive as writable, you should be prompted for what to do with it. Tell it to let the Finder open it and you will see the CD-R mount on your desktop just like any other CD or DVD would. Then, just drag files to the CD icon and arrange them as you would files anywhere else on your computer.

    Hope this helps.

i might actually be retarted because i have no prompt for what to do and i dont see the cd on the desktop. is there something that im missing, other than my brain? im not seeing any way to make a window open to put the files into. maybe i need a dumbed down lesson. i guess i really need to beef up my mac os knowledge.

    Try this:

Open System Preferences and choose CDs & DVDs. There should be a menu for "When you insert a blank CD" -- set this to "Ask what to do" and close System Preferences.

Now, insert a blank CD-R/RW. If you are not prompted with a window asking what to do with it, then you've got bigger problems. If this is the case...

Are you using a CD-R drive provided by Apple or a 3rd party?

    Internal or external?

If 3rd party, what brand and model?

You could also open the Apple System Profiler app (in your Utilities folder) and see if the drive is even recognized. I can't give you any more directions regarding Apple System Profiler because I'm using Panther and the interface was completely overhauled for it in the upgrade.
