Alright, some of you might have read my rant in os x about panther. Well, it seems something is still not right. I am not able to restart, shutdown, or logout. I also have to forcequit system preferences if I select the screensaver tab. I don't have any idea what to do, I already did a clean install. What should I do? I am getting annoyed!

Hard shutdown. Hold down the power button on your computer till it shuts off, than hit it again to start back up. Or the force restart button, which is on your computer somewhere. However, beware that if your having as many problems as it sounds like your having, you may have problems starting back up. Good luck.

No, what is repair permissions? Also, I noticed that my volume controls, birghtness or any other fn key doesn't work on the keyboard. I will force it to restart, but I have a feeling it will do it again. If it persists, I am calling apple. Thanks though.

Check out this thread, should give you more info on repairing permissions.

Good luck. Try a few things in there and see if they don't work. If they don't, call Apple.

There is a product called LoginWindow manager that can enable and disable these actions, so it makes me suspicious of Preferences, like com.apple.loginwindow.plist (but it may be another). Hopes this helps.

Alright, I think Apple support fixed my problem. What was happening was my computer was not coming out of sleep at all, or when it did, programs hung, & it basically worked like crap. It ended up being because of the computer was looking for the network at the school, and was hanging b/c it didn't find it or got mixed up somehow. So with some network setting being modified, it seems to be working just fine after waking from sleep. I am not sure what others experiences are with apple support, but it only took 2 calls, and both were nice about helping. (I guess it is their job, but some people might not be so kind about things) Anyway, I am very pleased with apple's support service.
