having 2 macs share files through ethernet even with wireless network?
does anyone know if for instance i have a g4 and a g5 and each of these macs have a wireless card, currently i can surf the web and exchange files through the wireless network. the problem is that i also want to transfer files (large ones like photoshop) from one mac to the other, its just taking for ever over the wireless network.
is there a way to run an ethernet cable from the g4 to g5 and maybe send the files through that cable instead of the wireless network?

guess thats the best thing to do unless theres a way to run files through firewire without making it a target disk.

You can do IP over Firewire, I think it's built into Panther and a download for Jaguar.

and

And then designate the firewire cable striclty for file transfer between the 2 macs?
If so, then it might be a good investment to get a firewire 800 card for the G4 so I can run a firewire 800 cable between the 2 macs, prob faster then through the ethernet connect on the 2 macs
if you hear of anything please l;et me know
thanks
A) I think you can set up locations e.g. "wired" and "unwired" and switch between them with ease.
and
Total speculation but worth a try.
WOuld be nice if that firewire 800 sharing software was available for panther, I guess there working on it thats what I was told last night.
thanks
thanks

In the Network control panel there are two popup menus; Location and Show. Under show select "Network Port Configurations". In the list of ports that shows up you can click and drag each item up or down to select the priority given each port.
