iTunes Music Store: Sales Tax?

Okay, it seems that customers in some states are not paying sales tax for their iTMS downloads. I'm not sure if it's because Apple is exempt or forbidden from collecting it or not, but I know I haven't paid a dime of sales tax in over a dozen separate purchases. The discussion actually started in this thread

Applicable sales tax is charged for music download purchases where required by local law. The estimated tax noted on your Music Store invoice is estimated and may not reflect actual charges. When this page was last updated, the following states charged tax on music downloads: AL, AZ, CO, CT (1%), DC, HI, ID , IN, LA, ME, NM, ND, SD, TN, TX, UT, and WA.

+ Minnesota

I would like to give you guys which county I'm living.

After the iTMS launched, I bought 2 songs with using my old address..

City: Pullman; State: WA; County: Whitman.

I just moved to a new place this Summer..

City: Ellensburg; State: WA; County: Kittitas.

I paid local sales tax in both places. I guess it applies to the whole WA.

It hasn't showed up on my credit card statement yet. But my account info on the store doesn't show tax. And it doesn't show tax on my previous purchases, though I'm sure my emailed invoice said it did. I can't quite remember.

Not in Michigan--or at least I've not been charged sales tax on any iTMS purchases (I just scanned all of my invoices). I was quite surprised, actually, and I don't know why not. All of my other Apple Store purchases have sales tax applied.

Just checked my CC statement: no tax.

I got my invoice and there is, in fact, no tax on my iTMS purchase. My previous purchases were in NC, so maybe it was different up there.

Georgia doesn't charge sales tax on iTMS purchases.

Not in Wyoming either. Though, I doubt that helps a lot of people at all really...

Interesting. So they must have different tax laws for music downloading vs. other internet purchases. Whodathunkit?

I think some states which have a sales tax only charge the tax when there is a physical item being transferred.

For instance, I believe AppleCare service is taxed (at least in CA) because it's accompanied with a cardboard box.
