Apple Prices on Ebay?

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but here goes. On e-bay someone is advertising a dual 800 w/ 22'' cinema display for $4,370.00 and an 867 w/ 17" apple flat display for $2,275. All new sealed units with factory warrenty. How can these prices be correct?

    I'd be weary, a lot of people have gotten burned with too good to be true deals in the last few months. eBay doesn't offer any real protection. Look at the seller ratings. Though even with this there are problems as some of the more elaborate scams have spent time using bogus identities to build up seller ratings before they for the kill. What kinda payment does the guy accept? Look for some kinda eScrow service. Few people accept this any more now since often the sellers were geting burned.



    Seems to me that eBay has become a great place to sell stuff, but a risky place to buy from.

    It is an auction. Whatever it ends at, the seller is obligated to sell at. Did you see that "almost square piece of carboard" selling for $120?

    Hi Corvette,

    the seller in question has over 350 ratings with only 5 negative..not a bad figure. The items in question were on a pre_sale basis and would ship wthin 14 days after payment. The question remains how can someone sell this cheap with "factory new sealed" components. Is he buying direct from Apple..and if so what volume for this low of a price. I am not even thinking of buying from anyone on e-bay, just trying to understand how someone can sell an apple product so cheaply.

    A few weeks ago I put my absolutely pristine (unused!!) iBook (white new model) up for sale on ebay UK...



    Anyway, there was loads of bidding and it went for a good, but fair price, well over the rerserve...however the winning bidder hasn't contacted me...



    I now have % of final price sellers fees to pay, that can't be refunded until after my next bill, so all in, I'm out of pocket on the sale already!...



    However I sold my G4 400, with no problems in an excellent sale...I guess like everything else it is just the luck of the draw...

    Yes, you have to wait 3 days to send a payment reminder, 10 days to send a non paying bidder alert, then 7 more days to file for the fee credit.



    And it shows up as a credit on your account, you don't actually get it taken off your credit card.



    I've had this happen to me several times now, and it's a huge pain in the ass.



    A new feature they have though, is called a Personal Offer. You can go back through eBay and offer the item to any bidder (2nd highest obviously) for the amount of their last bid. I just did this in fact for some SoundSticks.

    It is not uncommon for many people to lose on ebay. Either that or the products can be hot (stolen). It is funny, because people who sell hot products can be the honest and best sellers out there. As long as the user has good feedback to back up, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the product. It is a generally good idea to use paypal and a credit card to make purchases. That way, if something goes wrong, you have paypal, and your credit card to help you.



    Also, to be specific, people who work for apple can get apple products much cheaper. This could just be another example of an employee selling merchandise.
