Again, I defer to the AI Geniuses:

Has anyone used Panther to access a windows network? I'm wondering how this works as a practical matter. If I were to access my work PC from my mac at home, will I be able to "take over" my desktop pc at work and use all my pc based applications, or will I simply be able to access the files on the server, and use them with mac compatible applications?

This question may reveal that I don't know much about either VPN or networking, but that's ok. I'm ignorant. But I love Macs and that should count for something.8)

I have Panther at home and use Virtual PC with a terminal services client (doesn't work so well) and MacVNC to connect to my NT4 & W2K servers via the internet.

Install the VNC client software on panther, change the config on your Server/firewall to allow you access (will depend on your config) and thats it.

I too, am trying to connect my new iBook (my first Macintosh!) to our windows network, at work (and remotely). Do you need virtual pc, or will terminal services do the trick? And where do you get the MacVNC?

All that I need to do, is get to some excel, and word files, as well as some photos, on a shared drive on the server at work.

    Thanks,

    Sean
