Can you explain Ti/iBook LCD resolution?

I recently tried out a Compaq laptop that had the ability to run resolutions at 1600x1200.

While personally I find that too fine, what surprised me was that the LCD looked fine at 1280 x 1024 and at 1024x768.

When you change the resolution on Apple's laptops, why does it get all blurry? Does it have to do with the LCD screen itself or the video card?

I'm guessing the Compaq had a LCD display with more pixels and a card that supported it.

Thanks for any insight.

Most LCDs get blurry at resolutions other then their native resolution. CRTs don't do this because they don't have physical pixels like LCDs do. I have no idea why the Compaq LCD was find at other resolutions.

1280x1024 is a 5x4 ratio. 1024x768 is 4x3...more standard...confusing me even more how the Compaq can handle both resolutions without blurring.
