No Web browsers play wmv?

I've recently attempted to make any web browser on my mac play wmv, but not one works.

I've tried Internet Explorer, Safari, Camino and opera.

Opera gets the furthest, actually loading the interface, but then crashes. I've heard that a plug in was available for safari but I can't find it.

Is there any solution? All yahoo services tell me to download Netscape Navigator 4.7, which is based in OS9 and can't be used in classic.

I have the latest version of Internet Explorer, Safari 1.0 (v85.5), Camino 0.7 and the newly released Opera. I'm running OS 10.2.8.

Any ideas?

    Shouldn't it work, at least theoretically, with Safari? Yet it doesn't, with either WMP version. Why?

    It is intentional. Microsoft is a monopoly and they use their standards and formats to prevent or make it hard for anyone to use WMP unless they are on Windows. This is illegal but they have bought the US government. Now they are working on the EU. Let's hope Europe has more balls.

    I used to have a function player in Safari until I upgraded to WMP9. Though by functioning I mean that when I clicked on a link Safari would download the file to my drive and then load.

    After the upgrade it try's to play it, and fails giving me some fails to connect to server rubbish. I just download the links and play from there. No big hassle, though not a big user of WMP. Lucky to use it once or twice a month.

    Europe should have more balls. No offence to the US, but they're looking after a company that is their own, the EU has no such interest.

    With WMP 9, Safari and 10.3.1 I can watch clips in Safari off the CTV (Canadian Television Network) site.

    It's in the HTML. If you just put link to a file "whatever.wmv", it'll download to your HD. If you use the object and embed tags, it'll embed it. See:

    <object id="MediaPlayer"

    classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95"

    codebase="http://activex.microsoft.com/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701";

    standby="Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..."

    type="application/x-oleobject"

    width="304"

    height="255">

    <param name="FileName" value="http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/1070247679.wmv">;
