anyone know if these can be used as a replacement for the PSU fans in a G5? i was wondering if a subtle 'ground effects' style glow might result

The Apple fans are custom shaped so they slide into the enclosure. I'd recommend not modding the fans, since the cooling system is so proprietary, but instead using lights inside the case seperately.

Like Placebo said, don't mod the fans. Not a good idea. The cooling system is perfect. If you must have lighting, do it separately, don't mess with your fans in a G5.

The neon fans only have 2 speeds: "ON" and "OFF" Also the plugs for the variable speed G5 fans are not the same as the neon fans you want to add. I prefer other lights like cold CRT's and other LED's.

That mod is pointless. Maybe it would have been better if that person had done it without a flash, but I don't see the coolness factor.

I think the G5 Warp Core mod is for Star Trek fans... they want to have a "warp core" look to their G5. It does somewhat look like a warp core, but it needs a bit of a pulse affect or something. It's definitely missing something. Maybe some cool warp core sound effects.

from my website, this computer is one i got recently, put antec lights in it. 14.99 at compUsa.

also allows you to see in to the different compartments for upgrades, dust control...not a bad investment. Cheap, anyway.

    No flash

    "That mod is pointless"-Placebo

Right on! It was on sale at Fry's for $4 and I couldn't resist. But it was defiantly an attention-getter during a party last week.

Oh, there is one purpose for the light. It's a good way to tell if the computer is on if the screen is is not because the G5 is so quiet.

I'd recommend not succumbing to tacky PC mod pathos.
