The new G4's and L3 cache - more of the same?

Apple is making a very big deal of the L3 cache on the new G4's. From what I understand the L3 cache was always DDR wasn't it? Is this DDR just clocked higher? The cache in the last round ran at 1/4 processor speed. Apple says on the new G4's the cache runs at up to 500MHz so it's either running at 1/2 processor speed which in the fastest chip would be 500MHz or is running at 250MHz but since it is DDR they are marketing it as 500MHz. Any ideas or input?

Well, there is an article <a href="http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0201/29.motorola.php"; target="_blank">here</a> that you might be able to glean a little more info from.

According to Apple's hardware techpubs, the latter is true..
