Canned or Cooked?
After this weekend's Thanksgiving hoopla, out of curiousity I'd like to know how much of what you ate was from 'scratch' or 'pre-packaged'.
My gf and I spend T-Day apart, and meet up later with various edible booty from our respective families. It occured to me that her mother 'creates', while my mother 'assembles'. Not that this is some grim revelation, I learned to cook out of pure survival instinct, and have been the cook in the house to all roomates/gfs/friends my entire out-of-nest life.
So what kind of family fare are you used to?
Canned cranberries?
Deli pumpkin pie?
Campbell mushroom soup in the green beans?
StoveTop in the ass end of a dead bird?
I'd love to know.

Ah, but canned whole turkey? I don't think so.
And by the way, nobody ever answered my question (in another thread) about when the turkey is actually eaten during Thanksgiving in the U.S. Is it Thursday night? And do you just sort of coast for the remaining three days?
You are blessed groverat.

I'm on AIM with her now.
Not only is she a genius in the kitchen, she took to the Internet like a duck to water at 75-years-old.
g-ma = coolest woman ever
But I buy the (corn) tortillas ready, those are too slow to prepare from dough. Most of the other stuff - nothing beats the fresh ingredients.

grandma makes everything but the cranberry sauce from scratch.
Sounds like my late late grand mother.
She could make the loaves and fishes look like a side dish.
Five courses all done with one saucepan, a couple of onions, tomatoes and a big warm hug...
Turkey is for the weak.

You lucky lucky man. Both my grandparents have had some "prolbems" with their computers. Meaning either myself or alciemedes has to go over there and show them what to do. Not that it matters because I love seeing them anyway.
