I'm trying to remember the original founder's handle -- something quite normal. Kasper came in soon after. The site was originally called "Reality" some time around 1997/98. It became associated with and eventualy sold to MacNN. The site eventually changed its name to AppleInsider, changed its appearance at least twice, was tossed to the curb by MacNN after WorkerBee and Adobe's suit against MacNN, was out of action for almost a year, but grudgingly put back online by MacNN shortly before they sold it to the current owners who were the original owners and former owners of another rumors site that went nowhere around the time of OS X 10.0. I think that's the basic story, I might have made some mistakes though.
The story of its owners sort of reflects the career of Steve Jobs, doesn't it?
You're right!! Steve Jobs is the AppleInsider the name is referring too! It really does make sence!! What better an insider than the actual Apple CEO himself!!

AFAIR, Reality was always part of MacNN, was called "MacNN Reality," and was reachable at http://www.macnn.com/reality/ . The Internet Archive only has the forwarding page that was left on MacNN after they got the separate AppleInsider domain.
