Carrying case for G5 Tower

Guys, I am moving to my home country in about one week from now. I have a G5 tower, the way luggage is handled by the cargo staff at the airport is a scary thought. The only place that had a casing for the G5 was Willow Design . It would cost me around 300 dollars which I think is a little steep. Your advice on how I should be carrying my G5 tower with me is really appreciated. Thanks. I do have the original shipping box of the G5 though. Please advice.

    Ship it. It will cost a lot of money, but that will be much safer than letting the movers take care of it. You may also want to remove vital components as well. If you don't already have your HD(s) backed up, do it now. If I were you I would physically remove the HDs and keep them with you, as well as the RAM, if you so desire. That will keep two of the most vital components of your system safe and secure. Check and see how much it will cost to ship, if it's going to be over $300 than just go for the case from that site and invest in an absolutely huge amount of bubble wrap.

    Shipping would cost me around 500 dollars through UPS and Fedex would be more expensive. The problem with ordering the casing from Willow Design is that I am leaving on Wednessday and do not have enough time to receive the carrying case for my G5. One more thing I do have the original box in which Apple put the G5, I can wrap that with bubble wrap, I have been thinking about that option too. Thanks for your advice.

    The original box and foam should be enough. Bubble wrap couldn't hurt. Make sure you CLEARLY label your information on the box. It might be a good idea to lock your G5 (using the security hole in the latch) when you put it in the box. If there is a dishonest person handling your luggage you don't want anything to disappear. Also write down the S/N and other info you think is important. (amount of ram, hard drive, extras) That is good info to have anyways.



    Not that anything bad would ever happen to your G5, just being careful. 8)

    $500??? how so?
