Anyone ever use one of these? I am thinking of buying it cause I am tired of paying the leasing fee. Can anyone reccomend or not reccomend it? Their routers seem to be highly regarded.

I've got their 4 port router and I love it. However, I would never buy a Cable or DSL modem. IF it breaks you're SOL. At least if it breaks now they HAVE to replace it. Plus if you call for tech support they will ALWAYS tell you that its YOUR MODEM and your fault. Its the easiest way out for a tech support person.

I just read an article on Slashdot about a new technology for cable modems thats going to pump more data through the existing lines. I'll bet you 5 bucks you'll need a new modem for it.

I bought a Linksys 4 port router too, and it's very nice for the price. Man. Just a few years ago, Linksys products totally sucked. Now Linksys is releasing some solid products while still keeping their prices low. That's one of the reasons why 3Com has been going down the tubes...

Unlike routers which often include a firewall or DHCP server, cable modems don't do much other than connect a computer to the internet. That is, cable modems are becoming commodities. I would just get the cheapest one that works. I bought my cable modem from Circuit City for $200, but I also got a $200 rebate for subscribing to Comcast@home. Plus, I also got 3 months service for free. It was a really sweet deal.

Eatontown huh? I used to live in Long Branch. I had Comcast@home down there. While I had more outages than my current Earthlink DSL connection, I still miss Comcast. It was faster and when I DID have downtime, it didn't last long. I've gone up to 2 weeks without DSL

Anyway, I miss Eatontown too. Thats a nice area down there. Especially Red Bank which happens to have my favorite Vegan restaurant.

    Whoa...way off topic...sorry!!

I can't help you about the modem, either, but I installed their 4 port router to connect my cable modem to my older G3 and my new iMac and it worked without a hitch. Having configured the G3 on the router before the iMac arrived, I hooked up the iMac and it connected to the internet with no setup at all. And Linksys provides no Mac information, but it was still easy. If their other products are that good, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.

Y'know &lt;lies&gt; I hate to rub it in,&lt;/lies&gt; but I pay $40/month for 512KB Cable, it's hella fast, and the Modem is 'leased' for free, installation was free... one month service was free..

    ..And that's in Canadian (read: worthless) dollars!!! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
