Unable to Receive Faxes in Panther

Kia Ora,



I've recently 'taken the plunge' and brought my first computer.

An iBook G4 800. Yay!

BUT

I have tried the fax function but am unable to receive any faxes.



I am able to send faxes from any program, but when my mates try to send one back to me they all get the same error on their fax machines,

something along the lines of:

"Cannot recognise the handshake signal from the receiver side.."



I have been in System Preferences - Print & Fax and ticked the checkbox to 'receive faxes on this computer'.

I typed my home telephone number (the only ph number i have) in the 'Fax Number' box.

I have the rings set to 2 (the default)

I've set the save faxes to "Desktop"

and 'Email to' set to my email address.



Is there anything else i've missed?

It just seems weird that i can send faxes but not get any back......



I'm sure it's something simple i'm doing wrong...or not doing at all.

thanks for the reply, but the apple docs didn't really apply to my particular problem. They cover not being able to send OR receive.



I am able to send faxs, but am unable to receive any back. The senders fax machine always gets the error: "cannot recognise the handshake signal from the receiver side".



I will try to get another person with panther to send me a fax, to confirm if its not dependant on the actual facsimiles being used....
