Well, after 5 years, my Beige G3 tower 266 (overclocked to 300) has gone dead on me.

The day before, my 10 year old Performa 630 went dead on me.

Now something is fishy here....

The G3 only starts it's fan, nothing else, after several times, got as far as that the green power light went on and few times later i got even the booting screen (grey) from os x, but got stuck booting up.

No sound at booting.

The performa boots only from cd, can't find any HD. Even with Apple HD repair util.

Can a man be so unlucky that he got a dead computer 2 day's in a row?

Any ideas on what is broke on the G3 or the performa.

Only thing that has been running on both computers was "softpc" which had a virus and the battery on the performa needs to be replaced. Few weeks ago also my G3 needed the date and time to be corrected.

Can a dead battery cause this?

Any help on the matter is very welcome.

Last month 3 of my computers crashes and wouldn't start up within 10 minutes of each other. PC and mac both. Never found out what freaky thing caused it. However the only time my Beige G3 wouldn't play the startup sound was when i installed the IDE cable to the hard drive backwards or messed up the jumpers. (Don't ask 8) ) You may try to reset the PRAM, (hold down comand-option-"P"-"R") and see if that helps. Also if the clock is messing up, it may be time to replace the battery. That means I will probably need a new battery in my Beige G3 soon too.

Yep, I'd replace the PRAM battery (for the Beige G3):

And get yourself a surge protector for your power supply (if you haven't got one already).
