    Definite maybe.

I'm almost sure it would. The only hesitation I have is that you sometimes read that iMovie and FCP will skip some frames in playback. Probably this would not happen on a G5. To be sure, just play back the movie in QT or iDVD.

On a powerbook we do this all the time. Connect a TV to the S-video connector. Now that appears as a second display. Arrange to display the video full screen on that display. Start the VCR and hit play on the video.

It should work the same way on the G5.

well i dont think its that simple though.... when you have a video preview or export through firewire, the signal is decompressed, producing a nice full quality image. just using it as a second display will play that crappy looking preview seen in imovie. basically, i was wondering if the adapter would decompress the signal.. thanks for what you already said though (i'm trying to get a lot of things figured out before i get a new g5)

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are trying to do, but it sounds like it. What I do is always have the FW cable running from my computer to my camera, than run video out from my camera to a TV. Very easy, doesn't require an adapter or anything like that.

You aren't going to have device control anyway, so rather than fiddling with FCP you can just export a quicktime movie and then play it full screen on the vcr set up as a second monitor using that cable.
