Airport "Cannot read configuration file" error

I recently switched to a new ISP, and as I was trying to change the settings of my ABS, I did something to it(don't know what) that keeps me out of the settings. Every time I try to open it in the Airport Config app, I get an error saying it can't read the configuratin file. I've tried resetting it with the little button on the back, but it still doesn't work. I've power cycle'd it, all to no avail. I know that the password changes to "public" when you reset it, but I still can't get it, with any password.

Have you done a hard reset of it? Like plug in an ethernet cable to your computer and reset it that way? It's a pain in the ass but that's the ONLY way I've been able to get it to work. I hate it when my ABS acts up. Luckily, it's a rare occurrence.

    Here's the kbase article.

Yeah, I've tried a hard reset. I've been browsing around the AppleCare discussions, and it seems like downgrading the firmware might help, but I can't get into the modem to do anything.

Try Harder on the hard reset. I've seen it take several tries to take... and make sure the button is completely pressed in for the prescribed time interval and then some. It's very easy to let the button release for just a fraction of a second in the middle of the process.

Vary your technique a little, and the order of the hard reset steps. The hard reset can be a bit of voodoo sometimes.

If it's still a really cool-looking BRICK, take it to the Genius Bar at the Store where you bought it. I hear some of those bartenders really know their stuff. At worst, they should be able to write up its death certificate and issue you a replacement.
