How to load an email attachment into iPhoto?

Yesterday a friend sent me three pictures via Yahoo mail, which I opened in Safari. I was allowed to view the pictures and even "download" the pictures in Safari, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't get them into iPhoto. I'm sure this is a simple issue, and that I wasn't able to get the job done because I simply don't know what the hell I'm doing yet in OSX. Can anyone help?

    open iphoto and then drag the pictures into the iphoto window.

    Drag and Drop works for me.

    Or you can save them to your desktop, then "import" into iPhoto and they will all be in the same "roll".
