Not new. That's an older class-action suit having to do with certain features of older products - such as floppy drives and serial ports on Beige G3s and DVD playback on Lombards. Basically, Apple said "You think you were tricked into buying OS X which doesn't support everything you bought with your machine? Fine, you can return OS X for a refund."

I don't think Apple has formally acknowledged the iBook logic board class action suit yet.

even though apple HAS been found guilty of overstatin the compatibility of os x and older models, the final is STILL pending. so it'll be a little longer before anyone can claim the settlement.

and just to be picky, you are also allowed a nominal sum (i think it'll be US$20-25) to be used on a future apple store purchase, instead of a refund on the os x purchase if you don't want to give up your os x cd (or just can't find it).

and for the last time, if i could find the page on archive.org, i would, but apple had a page up for a LONG time saying "these models will be FULLY SUPPORTED under os x when it is released," so as to prevent people from not purchasing for fear of instant obsolescence. also, please recall that the lawsuit was for the os x.0 release (not jaguar or panther -- i'm not even sure it includes puma), which was by all accounts severely lacking in all sorts of areas. basically, apple opened mouth and inserted foot by making promises that the software engineers couldn't keep (and i am sure a few unfortunate souls lost their jobs for not being able to keep steve's promise).

sorry, i just get so ticked when people imply that there's no justification to this suit. if there wasn't, they wouldn't be found GUILTY. i'm the biggest apple apologist around, and even i know they f'd up.

I think I'm not being clear...I know about the suit in detail. I meant the link on the home page.
