You'd sorta think the FedEx guy would be embarrassed to drag that mess up to your front door.

holy moly! that imac box looks like it took a detour thru the bombing missions in kabul. or else it really was on the island with tom hanks and he dragged it on his raft just to deliver it. or maybe he used it as a raft...

lucky there was even a fed ex GUY to drag it up the steps. (yes dont get me started--lol!) not a stupid woman who made me go fetch it from the truck-- and im smaller than she was. but my box had only one dent on it, which i made from tying the bungee cords around the luggage cart.

I cannot believe this guy is going to keep this machine. Let him talk to Fran about what one Apple Customer Rep says doesn't mean it will be the same when you call back. They said if anything happens in a year they will replace it no questions asked? I can just see it three months from now and it goes downhill, he calls Apple...Apple Rep: "I don't know who told you that but we do not operate that way. We can send a box out so you can send it to us for repair, it should be back to you in 3-4 weeks..."

This guy made a bad choice keeping this machine.

I know I'd be anxious about getting my brand new iMac and all, but if the FedEx guy brought that to my door (and apparently it was muddy, too), I'd laugh (or cry) in his face, refuse delivery, lock the doors and call Apple immediately. It's freakin' $1800!

Actually, seeing as how the FedEx driver probably had nothing to do with the condition of the box, I would have enlisted him to help me resolve the issue. I'd have asked him all sorts of non-accusatory questions about how best to deal with refusing the shipment (which I absolutely would do - that box would not enter my house) and getting a replacement quickly. Then I'd call Apple and my credit card company.

    Jesus Christ!

    If my Mac comes in anything near that condition I will go B E R S E R K.

    bye.

I could just imagine if Macintosh's iMac comes like that. He'll be bitching so much more than usual.

I don't care HOW long I had waited for my iMac, I would NEVER accept a box like that! He must have let the FedEx guy go before calling Appl, right? I can't see the guy standing there while he calls, gets put on hold for 15 minutes, and finally talks to someone.

I can just see this thing being sent in 6 months from now..

"Sorry sir, it has water damage... that isn't covered by Apple Care."

"But it came like that. And a lady told me that if anything happened in the first year you'd replace it."

"Um, we don't do that, sir."

It's a time bomb. Just wait.

[edit] Wow. Murbot posted immediately before I did. This post is in reference to Macintosh going crazy, not Murbot's post.

Sweet Jesus. The guy kept that one too. I don't care what kind of guarantee apple offered I would still have gotten a new one even if I had to wait.

I'm the GM for a mail order company and I can tell you that you should never ever trust any shipping company at any time when it comes to possible damage of expensive equipment. When I order something I leave a note on the door in big bold easy to read letters that the driver may not leave the package on the door step if it shows any signs of being opened or has any signs of damage. A few times my customers have recieved damaged goods, and I encountered resistance from the shippers insurance rep. So then its a phone call straight to the shippers corporate hq since shippers don't like to file claims with their insurance companies (especially international shipments, be wary Canadians when ordering from the U.S.!).

Two rules of dealing with shipped merchandise.

    1) Never tolerate incompetance

    2) Always refuse mishandled boxes.

    This guy was lucky!

What's GM? GameMaster? GrandMaster? Golden Master? General Master? General Macdaddy? General Manager? Goods Manager? Godawful Manager?

General Manager, I believe. And SM would be Site Manager...not sado-masochism.

If I saw the FedEx guy bring that to my door, I'd tell him to wait for a second, run to my room, fetch my camera and snap some photos before doing anything else.

LOL! I've got this mental image of a FedEx driver holding the damaged goods, looking like a deer caught in the headlights.

"Oh, you need proof that it arrived like that? Well, I just happen to have a snap of the FedEx man holding the battered box. Good enough?"

Oh man. That's pretty awful.. When I order my new Mac (undecided on which one it will be), I will be SURE to have Camera and Phone in hand AND leave a note on the door, BIG note.... Now, I do think it was courteous of Apple to offer what it did, about replacing it within 12 months.. While we do not yet know whether that will TRULY be the case, if it is, then it is very kind. It is obviously Fed EX's fault, not Apple's and they should take care of it. Being that the mouse was gone, maybe he could report it stolen?

Yet another argument for more Apple Stores. I can't tell you how reasuring it is to go to a store where you can check everything out before you buy.
