Well, I don't want my administrator listening to me chatting with my girlfriend.

Anything running over a network can be tapped. iChat doesn't do encryption so it is possible to tap.

If you are at work, well the person next door will be able to hear you.

If you are in college, some one will probably hear you also.

My advice: get a paypal account and put out an occaisional request for $5. Some lonely schmucks will probably pay it to listen.

unless your girlfriend is extremely hot, and commonly known to be naked while talking to you, i doubt your administrator could give two shits about what you're talking about.

despite what people think, their lives are not at all entertaing to their network/IT admins.

OK, folks. I'll keep in mind I'll never ever ask my girlfriend to show her nipples to me over an iSight.

Where are you transmitting from that security is a concern. Even if your network was secure, it has to travel (like all information over the internet) through probably at least 5 computer/servers...who could record everything!

There are satellites can that read magazine text if they really want...so you should probably stay in your house. That new NASA satellite can see infrared and stuff so you will need to make an insulator so they can't spy on you even inside!

No need for security concerns really, your probably just paranoid because the media tries to hype hacking and make it seem all scary and like it occurs a lot. Well it doesn't

And don't forget the transient electromagnetic pulses (TEMPEST) you'll be spilling everywhere. People in the parking lot will be able to listen and see everything you're doing.

Just a thought, But maybe if your at work you should be doing work instead of talking to your girlfriend on your iSight.. Then you have even less to worry about.

If your going to do it anyways then really you dont have much to worry about. Its goign to take quite a bit for them to decrypt your video and audio signal just to hear you say I love you babe see you for dinner.

I just wouldn't do it, if they decrypt it wrong who knows what they could think your saying!

Yeah, they might think that you talk in some weird hissing and beeping language...

unless of course you have remote desktop setup...

the admin could snoop on you anytime he wants without you knowing if that is setup... (by snoop I mean observing your actual screen... I don't think sound can be passed through ARD)

(having ARD installed and setup are two different things!)

the new Apple Wireless BT keyboard uses 128-bit encryption

and is probably the most TEMPEST proof since this one, at least officially

some writings on AIMs encryption here

PGP could probably be made to wrap the iSight stream, but the overhead might be challenging

Network assistant used to put eyes on the screen when you where being watched. Though I think you can turn that off I dunno its been a while since I used net assistant.

Does ARD have the same thing?

something like that... the new icon has binoculars in the menu bar and a little shadow of a man under it... when someone is watching you the man turns solid

do a search for ARD in the GB or GD and you will find a recent thread where I posted pics... (but I believe that the icon was the old one...)
