the reason why motorola was important

One question of concern regarding the rumored revision pertains to form-factor design. With each G5 processor consuming over four times the wattage of a comparable G4 chip, Apple's choice of enclosure will have a critical impact on the success of the project.

this statement says it all.

the g5's consume 4x the wattage of a "comparible" G4 chip.

so for all powerbook fans, and who isnt, think about either a g5 powerbook or a QUAD-G4 powerbook.

which would be better and why and which one would run YOUR apps better?

At equal mhz a 7457 heat nearly the same wattage than a PPC 970. It's logical because both have 57 millons transistors and are made on soi 130 nm (even if there is a lot of others factors for a chip wattage).

IBM also plan to produce the 750 vx, will have a lower consumption than any previous G4 chips at equal mhz.

Moto in his current shape is worthless.

Agreed. With the coming of the 90nm G5 some of the power consumption issues will be solved as well. It would be completely impractical to do a quad G4 PB. The heat, power, and space issues would be unbelievable.

    I highly doubt 90nm G5's use 4x the amount of power of a G4.

That would be the plentiful 2 to 3 GHz G4s then?

Looks like a typo in the thread title - there is no "R" in IMPOTENT

Depends on what you mean by Motorola. As a PC chipmaker, it's worthless. It's still not worthless to the rest of the embedded market though. And it does own other companies like Nextel...
