USB problem with paper shredder

Has anyone experienced a problem where another electronic device causes interference with their USB ports? In my case, I have a inexpensive paper shredder located a foot away from the G4-500. Whenever I shred anything, the USB port is deactivated. I have a USB hub connected to that port. All I need to do is unplug and replug it in to solve the problem, but I find it rather weird that the shredder would cause this problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know why this would happen?

Shredders (like blenders and hairdryers), can be very noisy devices on powerlines. My guess is that this noise (and posible power drain on the line) are causing your powered hub to hickup, and rather than let it take down the computer, it is disconecting.

Besides just the line interference, there may be electromagnetic radiation coming off the shredder's motor that would affect the computer from only a foot away. I'd say get a UPS on your computer equipment and move the shredder farther away from your stuff.
