Having remorse about purchase.

Posted:
in General Discussion edited January 2014
I posted the other day. I am still having those problems. But now, I have noticed that the gap on the right side has gotten bigger. I noticed a red stuck pixel today, that I thought was just a speck on the screen that could be wiped off. Now I am disappointed and feeling remorse about my purchase and or sizable investment. Any advice and help people can give would be much appreciated. I bought AppleCare, but Apple said today that there was nothing that could be done. Help me please. I was so excited, and now, I don't know how I feel, except very disappointed.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Just keep bugging Apple and maybe something will happen.

do you have an apple store you can visit with the powerbook, even if it's a long drive (closest apple store to me is in houston, 6 hours away, but if it were me and i was getting nowhere on the phone, i'd go speak to someone in person)?

it can sometimes help if they can see it in person and try working on it themselves to authorize applecare repair or replacement.

also, if you bought with a credit card, you may be able to use any "lemon" protection the card has, to stop payment on a purchase of a product that is defective. it's a very "last resort" method, but i have heard of other people getting this to work. then when you tell apple you've cancelled them from getting their money, they suddenly get VERY helpful.

You're complaining because there's some "give" in the battery area and you have a stuck pixel? You want a refund for THAT?!? I don't agree with Scott that often, but I agree with Scott. Don't sweat it. Chill out about it and you'll be a much happier person.

I felt the same way...granted my screen has no stuck pixels but uneven backlighting and white subtle white spots. I really had myself convinced I was a shit head and should have gotten a G5 because I don't really need the portability of a PowerBook.

Well my buyers remorse as subsided and I love my computer and haven't even thought about exchanging it for a G5 for a while.

Today I realized something, as I set up my extra monitor, speakers, and plugged my computer in and sat there for several hours I began to realize how much I loved sitting in my living room on my recliner. So I grabbed my power cord (which Apple are bastards for asking me to pay $70 for an extra), my mouse, and went downstairs which is where I'm posting from now.

My battery has a little play left and right, but what does it really matter? Use your computer for a little, let it become part of your family and I think you'll soon discover it's one of the best things you've ever purchased.

Ah, Buyer's Remorse. It was talked about today on the simpson's.

Soon, you will learn to cope with the purchase. I have this all the time with big things. The problem is the hype. See if you were like "hmm..this may be a good CD" and you are expecting a 5, and it is 7, you are like : "it is good"::: BUT, if you were expecting a 10 and you get a 7, you will be like "it's not bad."

This is why there are 30 second previews.

yes, I also have had the same feeling. I got a stuck blue pixel on my monitor. apple will not replace the screen unless there is at least 4 dead pixels. but no fretting, that's as bad the screen will probably get. There is no perfect LCD screen, it would cost too much to build one. I takes hundreds of thousands of little transisters to connect the pixel, having one stuck out of that is miniscual. It really hurts at first, but at least your not unfortunate enough to have a screen with 3 placed in the worst areas possible You'll grow to ignor the pixel, and get a red bg

Best you can do is be on the watch for any new developements. Sorry about it... but it happens to everyone, including pc users.

You know, stuck pixels can be UNSTUCK. I'd post how, but I'm feeling lazy. A stuck pixel isn't dead.

Allegedly, stuck pixels can be unstuck by gentle rubbing. Every so often I give it a go, but my stuck green pixel never goes away. Has this actually worked for anyone?

In my last PB I was able to "rub out" a couple of stuck pixels.

Yep, my imac had one, I rubbed it a bit, it started to blink, rubbed a bit more and it works fine(this was all within having it on for 5 mins). it was stuck on red.

I took it to an Apple retailor and asked about the gap and the trackpad. They told me that the screen was warped or there was stress pulling the right side up. He also said that the trackpad was sticking and that was causing the erratic movement. I am not after a refund, just wanting a powerbook without problems. This is my first powerbook. I am a poor teacher working toward my Master's Degree and took out a loan to get this to help be able to work on my project on the go. Thanks for your cooments. Any advice anyone can give is always appreciated.

Had one in a G4 PowerBook that would come back. I could always massage it away, and it would be back in a couple of weeks.

Of course this meant I had to do it twice, maybe three times, with how often I change machines.

So massage it out and sell it as no dead pixels?

Not to sound like an idiot, but what the heck is a dead pixel?

A dead pixel is one that doesn't display any colour. A stuck pixel always displays the same colour.

One or more sub-pixels (Red, Green and/or Blue) in an LCD that is stuck permanently on (resulting in that pixel losing its red, green or blue colour component), or permanently off (resulting in that pixel "stuck" on bright red, bright yellow, bright green, bright cyan, bright blue, bright magenta or white.

I called Apple this morning and they are sending a shipping box that will arrive Friday. I will be without my powerbook for while. They said that is the correct procedure instead of taking it to a local repair shop. I am just disappointed to have not had it so long and already sending it in for repair. And no I am not whining and I am not looking for a refund as someone said earlier, I just expected that in making such a big investment, that it would come without problems and not have problems for a while. I have a blue and white G3 for 6 years now and have not had major problems. Thanks everyone. Keep giving me the great advice I appeciate it.
