is it possible to add songs to my ipod while still not having to keep them on my powerbook? I'm out of space and was wondering if this is possible.

Nope. They won't show up in the iPod catalog.

Disable automatic update and everything should work fine for you. You'll have to drag all the stuff that you want on your iPod from iTunes, but that isn't really a huge hassle. Only problem is, that means your only copy of your songs will be on your iPod. Bad idea. If your iPod goes south for some reason and requires a reset, than say goodbye to all your music. Get a bigger HD or do an external FW disk. Storage is cheep, take advantage of it.

Note: Next time, something like this should go in Digital Hub.
