well, i have to admit that, selling my goods and services for web design to people outside my state is a distinct (though not huge) part of my business. but it's made possible by the fact that i don't have to calculate and remit taxes for anywhere my sales might occur.

with the possibility of the SSTP being passed, i have to think that many sole-proprietors like myself would not be able to handle the paperwork and legal handling required to stay profitable.

but, i am not sure what *really* would the most beneficial for our country. here's a link to the ebay community chatter newsletter on the issue. take it for what you will...

The court ruling that that is based on is dated in this modern age. In all honesty we should be paying sales tax on all this stuff we buy on the net. I knew it would catch up to us sooner or later.

well, apple's doing it, regardless of whether they have a "physical presence" (example: they don't have anything in louisiana, but i get charged sales tax for everything i buy from the apple store).

like you said, it doesn't SURPRISE me, but if this does go through, i am going to have to hire a full-time accountant to handle all of these tax implications (as opposed to the bi-monthly visits i do now). that's going to hurt a lot of legit smaller business folk. but then again, maybe it'll weed out those who don't give a crap about conducting good business. like i said, i don't really know which way is best. they both have pros and cons.
