it does seem to be an exclusively (north) american phenomenon...

(though to be fair, canadian football has cheerleaders too)...

but basically, token T & A from the land of the sexually repressed.

perhaps meant to fill the down time from watching the athletes in games with too many stoppages

are there pom-pom girls in aussie rules, rugby, or soccer?

yes, i suppose. but here, in a place that is warm about 99% of the year, i see plenty of skin, so i guess seeing girls in skimpy outfits just really isnt that big a deal anymore. maybe if i was 13 or 14, but come on...give it up already. no one gives a shit about your "spirit" and how high you can jump.

maybe it's also that my school doesnt have cheerleaders and i've gotten used to that, but seeing other schools with them makes it seem almost as if im back in high school again. the whole thing seems quite immature...

    No, yes, no.

Rugby is the most similar of the three to American football. Some might say it's because both games are so devoid of skill on the part of the players.

TnA can be a sport, too!

I mean, can you go watch a baseball game w/o eating a hotdog? It's a collective experience, you see.

I think cheerleading in high school and college seems like a dinosaur held over from the days when there were no women's athletics-at least the ones that just stand on the sidelines and go, "Rah, rah, rah!"

They seem kind of silly to me.

I have respect for the ones who do those competitions though-those girls (and some guys) work!

In the NFL I see them as part of the spectacle-and not one I mind at all.

    You people are insane.

Cheerleaders are great. I get irritated by TV cameramen shoving their cameras up their vaginas before going off to a commercial break, but that's not the cheerleaders' faults.

They add a lot of fun to the game for those actually in attendance, especially when the UT pom girls wear chaps. HELL YEAH!

If you can respect pro wrestling, you can respect cheerleading: part cheesy acting, part athletic performance.

If cheerleaders were about spirit, there'd be a hell of a lot more fat and ugly cheerleaders.

This thread reminds me of a movie a friend of mine shot called Cheerleader Autopsy. (Note my name on the cover - always designed as placeholder text, but he thought it was great and asked me to leave it on there)

You can finally buy it at Amazon.com!!

I guess there's no way in hell I can respect cheerleading then.

At least when I watch people make asses of themselves with little clothing on they are fit young women.

No. But I think you do.

    Bad way of putting it.

Back on topic. Cheerleading is a fossil from those days when schools lacked sports for girls, but the idea of them has become so ingrained into the American psyche (and fantasy) that you put it next Mom and applepie in the American iconography.

Anyways, what hetero-male can't appreciate the idea of attractive young women in skimpy clothing jumping around. Doesn't sound half bad to me. Hell, they're having a good time and if the game is poor than they ensure that I have some eye candy.

What are your talking about alliance? Why without cheerleaders, the porn industry of tomorrow would take a beating! And you surely must know that in this day and age, the porn industry is a vital part of our economy. Why we might slip into another recession in a few years were it not for (soon-to-be) ex-cheerleaders.

If everyone was to mirror the cheerleaders of alliance's school the gay porn industry would go wild.
