Pluging Amp Into Mac

I've just started to fiddle around with the guitar and want to record some of my super-ultra-mega hits. Is there any way to plug my amp directly into my mac? I tried using a 1/4"-to-1/8" cord to connect the amp's line-out to my mac's line-in, but it doesn't seem to work. (I realize that I could just use my internal mic, but sound quality isn't exactly sudio quality as it is.) Thanks.

    That should work, but you need an app to record from your line in. Try version tracker for a selection of recording programs. Search around and you should be able to find some.



    Okay, since I'm in a good mood I'll get you started off on the right track. If you don't find what your looking for here, keep searching. You'll find what you need eventually. Recording



    Edit: Oh yea, and if your songs really are "super-ultra-mega-hits" as you claim them to be, I get a cut of the profits if you ever make any money!

    I have a Mackie soundboard patched into my Mac and it works fine. You do need recording software. In OS 9 I used Pro Tools, but in OS X I use "Audio in" (Free) and Final Cut pro.



    Make sure you calibrate your amp to get the best sound. Can't stress this enough. I've seen some great work go straight to hell because the band sounds like it is playing a mile away. In the sound control panel there is a level meter. Make sure you have the correct line in port and adjust the amp (while playing decently loud) so all but the last 1-2 lights are blinking when you play. Too much volume and you can get some NASTY distortions. (Digital distortion is much worse than analog)

    There is no sweeter sound than analog distortion.







    However, I've noticed that the best way to record a guitar (especially a distorted one, it to put a microphone right in front of the amp. Much warmer sound. Good luck!

    ^ yup ^ ,what he said ,the only way to get a phat sound unless you have a guitar processor, like a boss gt-,3,5,6 or something along those lines.

    But still not as good as a tube amp and a microphone.
