Anybody know if you can turn on filevault so you can just use it to protect data in a zip disk or on a CD?

Is there any way you can use filevault on a specific folder on your harddrive?

Thanks to all who answer...

not that I know of, but you can create a password protected disk image (dmg) with disk utility, is this what you are looking for?

FileVault encrypts your home folder only.

Right. Basically, create an encrypted disk image just a bit smaller than the disk, and put it on there. It's not as convenient, since you'll have to open up the disk image every time you put the disk in, then unmount the image before you eject the physical disk.

    Kesh/Paul,

Thanks for both of your responses. I'll give it a try.
