Bill Maher Disappointed With Dean Movement
Saw Bill on Leno Friday night, always like to see those two banter about political and cultural topics.
Maher surprised me with his comments about Dean's campaign. He said that it wasn't a campaign of ideas, that it was a campaign of "get rid of Bush"; something he felt held no clear vision to project. He took it to comedy when he said that the movement was more of a way for people to meet each other online...a dating service. He got big laughs, but you could tell he was serious.
Who's shaping up to be Dean's biggest rival? I mainly got the feeling that Bill was unhappy with all of his choices....maybe he'll go on the stump for a senatorial seat next time around? Wouldn't surprise me.

larry king asked him this point blank last year, and i believe maher said something like this, "when politically incorrect was on the air, they polled our audeince and found that 15% of the viewers agreed with me most of the time. that's not the way you build a political platform."
I'm sure they spend alot of time listening to speeches or reading the candidates plans. They're part of the lazy media.
shoe meet other foot
politics and media is infuriating for everybody once they pick on your guy!

Neither Leno or Maher are politcal geniuses. Don't really care what they have to say about politics.

Can't speak for Leno. Say what you will about him, Bill Maher is well read and up to date on his politics. The other reason he's used an excuse for not running for office is that politicians can't get elected by telling people what they don't want to hear like his famous, "America needs less religion and more drugs" rant.
The Dean mystery - why he among the Democrats became the favorite - is: it turns out, it helps your social life. If I read the article right yesterday, the Dean campaign is basically Friendster for people who listed politics as one of their interests. Not to say that they're not sincere, but it did smack a bit of the convenient hippies of the 60s, the guys who went to the peace rally, more to meet hot chicks into freelove and bra burning, and stop a war they might have to go to, than any political quest. Again, sincere people they both also were. But everybody's hungry for love, damnit! And there's just something about being in a "crusade" together that makes the exhausted, lost-cause sex even hotter.

After reading the NY Times Magazine article he is referring to when it came out, he really is spot on. Most of the Dean ditto heads could care less about politics, but are following their buddies.
Here are some of Maher's newest posters.

It is "funny" because it makes fun of the fact that while the French were opposing the .us on Iraq there were thousands of elderly people dead. The message is stop supporting dictators and start paying attention to the elderly.
I think it's unfair to demean his supporters. Are Bush's or any other Dem's supporters any more sophisticated? No. One thing Dean has done that IMO is great is attract new people, especially young people, to politics. And I think because they're new to politics and they're generally college-age, Maher thinks it's OK to mock them. But are big business contributors somehow more valid as supporters than Dean's college kids? Nope. More power to them. I just hope that 1. Dean loses the primary and 2. despite their disappointment, his supporters vote for the nominee in the general election.

You know it's really pathetic when the conservatives best hope is that the democrats can't come up with a strong runner.
What? Really pathetic is when Democrats can't get a guy to run on issues but rather a Bash Bush platform.

I did not see the connection between don't kill democracy and the support for Iraq war. Kill democracy means replace a democracy by a dictatorship. There was no democracy in Iraq. You canno't kill a democracy who do not exist ...
Even for a non native english speaker for me i call this bad wording.
Same apply for the second sentance. We did not kill the elder. The authorities did not prevent our elder to die due to the heat wave. That's very different.
Anyway thanks for the explanation, i really did not see any connection with Iraq.
Fship : thanks.
Scott is right : this pictures are not funny.

Not 7 I would argue but maybe 2 or 3 yes but the democrats say they are unelectable.
Sad I tell you.
Democrats give up on candidates who have vision for one who has hatred of Bush. Dean is an angry white male from a "white" state and will carry no more votes than that of angry white males in the general election.
The guy has no understanding of Christians, No understanding of "southerners" he has something to hide in his record as governor.
Mark my words this will play out in the general election.
Bush will win with at least a 20 point margin.
