do i need a new ABS?

hello...i have a dual ethernet snow ABS (pre extreme) that may be on the fritz....i have hard restarted twice with no luck...

the ABS is connected to a cable modem by ethernet...the ABS lights blink and flash, the cable modem blinks and flashes...but i no longer have a connection to the internet (weatherpop can't update, safari won't load pages, mail won't update etc)....i powered down everything...i reset everything...i even reloaded panther...still nada

now if i connect the modem directly to my iMac all is fine....which is how i am writing this now...but it kinda defeats the purpose of wireless and it also doesn't help the older iMac in the kids room (though they can sometimes get on using "Mike2004", which is i suppose is a wireless connection in a house nearby,,,the beauty of moving to the city i guess)

anyways...is the ABS screwed? should i replace it with another ABS or do you guys recommend something else?? thanks...it is still pretty and has the flashing lights, but two hard resets and reboots and all have made me assume that it must be the screwed up component...

how do i test the airport card?? can that fail? because this computer doesn't see Mike2004, but that could be because i am on the other side of the house...their computer barely sees it and often not at all...but replacing a airport card could be cheaper than a basestation)

thanks

Try reloading the firmware that came with your base station. I did that once and it worked.

Yes, ABS is essential, especially driving in the snow in winter. Braking would be...

    er..- wrong topic?

Oh, then try logging into the ABS with the Airport Admin Utility, while hooked up by ethernet to see what's up.

You could also set up the kids' iMac to share the "Mike2004" connection so that you piggy-back off their machine onto the net. If that doesn't work...

...try connecting to the iMac via Rendezvous (in iChat or something). If that doesn't work then it IS a problem with your card.

airport admin sees the ABS...airport signal shows as strong (5 bars)...all three white lights go blinky blinky...cable modem goes blinky blinky...yet no go...sadness

If you do decide to replace it, I'd suggest a cheaper easier option. i just picked up a linksys for like $60 and it works perfectly fine.

I had similar issues with my base station and funall gave up after about a week of frustration and troubleshooting. I never did find a fix for mine. I hope you have better luck than I did.
