Powerbook power adapters

Apple does it again

This article mentioned the numerous issues people are having with the current powerbook/ibook adapters. I can't believe it took this long to come up. I bought one last Christmas to replace the one that had failed (not even two years old) on my Powerbook. With just regular use, I went though five of them this year. Basically they all break in the same spot so it must be a design issue.

Anyone else encountering this?

5 in a year is excessive. i've had mine about two years now. the one at work no longer lights up green, although the amber still works. up until a week ago, that's the one i brought with me everywhere i went. pretty much got wound and unwound a few times per day w/o issue.

the only power adapters that really had issues were the first gen iBook ones. they weren't reinforced at a common bend site. caused a lot of them to break with regular use.

although with the prevalence of AppleCare, i'd think that it would be in Apple's best interest to keep power supplies from breaking.
