packet8 rocks!

well, i was talking about it a couple months ago and i finally did it. i no longer have a cell phone or a land line, but only a broadband phone. i signed up through packet8.net, they sent me a little box to plug into my router on one end and a normal phone on the other, and then i dialed some code and i was up and running!

i got a local cincinnati number with unlimited calls in the US and Canada for $19.95 a month. MUCH to my surprise, the quality has been indistinguishable from my cell phone...no delay or any awkward moments during conversations.

right now i'm three days into it, and this sounds like a biased praise of packet8, and i'm wondering if that will change as i use the service.

they also include free voice mail, which is okay, but the number to use it is always busy.

i understand vonage.com has a similar, more well-advertised service for $34.95 a month. they don't offer anything in cincinnati (not that it matters, since they are almost twice as much)

Yay for VoIP and yay for SIP!
