This is why we love Apple's UI folk - despite the warts.

Over on slashdot there's an article on GTK+'s new file selector (think open/save dialog), and various ideas for the UI for it.

Take a look.

Then realize that only a couple of comments in the talkback, so far, mentions MacOS X, and then one only in a screenshot link (titled 'Flamebate').

It could be worse. Much worse.

I could try and explain why all of those file selector mockups are wayyyyy inferior to Aqua's...

Or I could simply smile and return to my iBook

It's ugly, but is it really that different than the OSX open/save box? Besides missing the column view, it seems like it is a functional equivalent. I would rather Apple get it right than make it purty.

Aaaaaaactualy (trying to simulate west coast spelling) despite all flaws and itches, MACOS X is just a pleasure to work with - compared to other operating systems.
