iMac G4 questions/buying advice

Some advice needed: I'm a PC guy thinking of buying the new entry level iMac G4 (my first Mac). Got some questions...

Is the 40gig HD on the entry level model running at 5400rpm or 7200rpm?

What kind of performance can I expect from the 700mhz G4? Is it very fast?

In regards to purchase...where is the best place to buy an iMac? I understand that most online merchants give away free memory and other incentives. But I'm concerned about product returns, in case I get a defective unit. The vendors on my list are...MacMall, MacConnection, and CDW. Suggestions?

Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

The HD is running @ 5400 rpm.

Performance, hmm, look here at that thread, maybe it will answer your question:

the odds of you having to mail the computer back are very slim. even if it's broken when you unpack it, you're still under warranty and they'll send you to a repair center near you. but if you're still worried (believe me, i understand) then purchase from a local store where you can walk in and return it. the free gimmicks at maczone etc are not all that great in my opinion. the tiny 256mb ram didnt entice me, since i would have had no use for it. i bought what i really wanted instead-- a 512 chip and installed it myself, and will have the factory slot upgraded to 512 one day also. you can buy yourself a 50-pack of cd-r's for $10 on sale anywhere. i just got some for even less.
