I just hooked up an iSight camera to my desktop and I get a message saying 'camera in use by other application'. There are no other apps running that should affect it. I have an Aurora Igniter board installed on the machine, and software such as Final Cut Pro4 etc, but not running at the time of the message.

yes. I plugged it into my PowerBook and it was fine, it worked right off without any problem. But iChat keeps telling me it's in use by another application when I go to Preferences and when I click on the camera icon in the buddies palette

I don't see anything in either that would be using the camera

MacInTouch ran a reader report on this a while back. Apparently it's an issue with the very thin FireWire cables that Apple uses, and using a full-size FireWire cable can make it go away sometimes? One MacInTouch reader had luck with an old iPod FireWire cable.

See also this KnowledgeBase article, which recommends unplugging and replugging the FireWire cable.

I tried uplugging and re-plugging. iSight is appearing in the ASP window on the firewire bus but I still have the same message when I open iChat.

The strange thing is it works with my 1.25 G4 PowerBook with the same cable.

what are the specs of the machine?

    are you running panther?

did you buy AV (if you are in jag)?

download quicktime broadcaster and see if that will see the iSight...

also, are you sure the firewire port is "known good"?

    try the other one...

oh, can someone move to the DH?
