Unless there is some weird way I do not know exists, I cannot pull up a contextual menu that allows me to copy the image address of a picture in Safari. I can copy the image to the clipboard. I can download the image to the disk. I can open the image in a new window. I don't see a "copy image address" option at all. I'm pissed.

Just found out something else Saffie can't: animated background (gif's). It's around since, what, NS and IE 3 ?

And I mailed the Support Team, Brad.

Is there a Service that does something akin to this, or am mistaken? (I'm away from my Mac right now.)

Yup, this sucks. You can open the image in a new window and copy the address from there.

Maybe it's because linking to someone else's server without permission is a bad thing.

    I don't know. Maybe? heh

Isn't that bad netiquette? I usually download things and host them on my iDisk if I'm posting an image.

    *shrug*

Of course, there are other uses for it, and it does suck.

I've gotten really good at "Open image in New Window", Cmd-L, Cmd-C, Cmd-W...

Me too...or dragging the picture to the address bar and copying. The point is, you shouldn't have to do this. This is OS X we're talking about here!

Wrong. This is Safari. Not OS X. OS X is the Operating System, Safari is an app which runs on OS X. If you want to copy the url of the image with a ctrl-click, you have to get yourself a different browser.

You can always Control-Click on the image and choose Open Image in new window from the contextual menu that pops up. It will show you the address in the URL box on the new window that pops up

I think you're completely missing DMBand's point. Safari is part of Mac OS X. It's built and provided by Apple. The reason he's saying "The point is, you shouldn't have to do this. This is OS X we're talking about here!" is because he expects apps by Apple that are included with the OS to be close to be really good, like the OS itself is. Safari is lacking and he's bundling the complaint with that of Mac OS X.

Safari is just as much Mac OS X as TextEdit, Mail, or Disk Utility. Sure, you can find third-party alternatives, but these are Apple's and they come built-in with your system.

I was about to mention that the option is also nowhere to be found in IE, but I guess that's moot, eh? Netscape and Camino both have it, though -- interesting. Guess I have never known what I'm missing in that regard-- have just done like everyone else and open in new window.

I'm not sure if that's a bug or a feature to protect user's sanity

I still hate that on some pics that you open up in a window if you drag the contents to your desktop or a folder it re-downloads the pic again instead of using the one on the blinking screen in cache !!

note - some sites you can't direct d/l from a link i.e. ww.motogp.com it must open in a new window first..

Yeah.. same goes for Internet Explorer too huh? I thing it's just fine for Safari's menus not to be overloaded with junk.

Maybe slightly off topic but: does anyone have any idea when the next major revision of Safari will appear ?
