Help me pimp it out
Yes the time has come to complete my setup. I have the dual GHz stock and plan on adding a few things.
First let's start with monitors I am considering. I currently have a pretty good monitor however I want to get something bigger & higher resolution. Also the G3 can use the View Sonic since currently the only screen option for it is an old Apple Color Display. Here are 3 candidates so far (these are in the price range I'm looking at):
-NEC FE950+
<a href="http://www.newegg.com/app/specification.asp?item=24-002-007" target="_blank">http://www.newegg.com/app/specification.asp?item=24-002-007</a>
-Hitachi CM721FB
<a href="http://www.hitachidisplays.com/products/19_721F.htm" target="_blank">http://www.hitachidisplays.com/products/19_721F.htm</a>
-Samsung 900NF
All these are 19" totally flat CRTs. I really want a black or silverish monitor.
Next up is the sound card. I think I'm going with the Audiophile 2496, which can be found at midiman.net. Looks great and has OS X drivers.
Now for the beloved graphics card. I want to pull the GF4 MX because the screen flash problem is annoying and I really wanted a GF4 Ti from the start. Question is which model and which brand. I'm seriously considering the Asus and Gainward Golden Sample. The Gainward has 750 MHz memory I believe and is o/ced right outta the box. The Asus also has slightly higher core and memory clock & should overlock well. However would the jump over a 4400 be huge? Will Gainward or Asus offer Ti 4400 cards that come overclocked? I really want bang for buck and any Ti card should be great. When are the 4200s coming & how much $$$? I have also considered complaining to Apple about the problem and asking for a GF4 Ti card @ BTO price.
Last I want some speakers to add on. I'm looking to spend upwards of $150 so if there are some good 100-150 speakers you know of holla at me.

congrats!
as for the speakers, far and away the best price/performance out there are the <a href="http://www.klipsch.com" target="_blank">Klipsch</a> ProMedia. I'd say go with the 5.1's, but the 2.1's are more in your price range. Also, check out pricewatch.com for the best deals.
good luck.

I can't really help you with anything else. Just wanted to give my two cents about the monitor.

They're quite directional, but they have incredibly clean sound and still get good bass response.
Downside-it's a big monitor depth wise.
I also have the Monsoon MM-1000 and have been very happy with those speakers as well.
perhaps you can see them here? small and sound excellent!
At the Apple store in Buffalo, I saw some JBL Sonnets that sounded really nice and they are under $100.00. They're incredibly small too for the amount of sound that they put out.
At work, we have a set of Klipsch Promedia 2.1. Those are, by far, THE best speakers I have ever heard hooked up to a computer.
Good luck!!
<strong>perhaps you can see them here?</strong><hr></blockquote>What's that big shark-fin-looking thing on top of your subwoofer? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
<strong>is there a way to get 5.1 on the mac? i know os x supports it but i don't know of any hardware (sound cards) that do. someone please show me the light.</strong><hr></blockquote>
none yet.
Creative Soundblaster supports 4.1in OS 9.x but no OS X drivers... yet. and even if OS X drivers become available don't expec much
