please help - upgraded to the latest QuickTime, and now it tries to be the default application even when I try to download a Word (PC) document! This used to be no problem - Word documents would open in Word. Can anyone tell me how I can get back to this?

Hm, odd. find a Word document in the Finder, and Get Info on that item (under the file menu or apple-i keys). Go to the "Open With" field, choose MS Word as the application in the pop-up menu, then hit the "Change All" button just below that pop-up to make MS Word the default app for all files of that type. You'll get a confirmation dialog, and then try opening that file and another one to make sure it worked. If it doesn't, check the file's extension and check the file permissions.

Thanks for the quick reply. Turns out I was just being an idiot. When I downloaded the document from an email I received, it discombobulated the file name and cut the .doc from the end. Once I added that, it opened automatically in Word, as always.

Why do PC Word file names change when I download them? Any way to stop this?
