Unable to install Panther (clean install) on B&W G3
Dunno why this is happening. I was able to update Jaguar on another HD. I'm trying to install this on a brand new 120GB drive that checks out fine. I've tried it twice - I have a Rev A B&W 400mhz machine - and after CD 1 tries to restart I get the "you must restart your Mac" multi language window, plus once I got a kernel panic.
Any ideas?
My sys config: 400Mhz B&W G3: 120GB main ATA drive (only one drive supported on original ATA chain). I also have an additional RAID card with 2 additional 120GB drives (one with Panther installed - works fine). 1GB RAM. And yes, I tried the install with everything (non - Apple supplied) removed.
Thanks..Neil

you can't use big hard drives on the Rev. A's ATA controller. You must either boot from a PCI ATA controller or put a smaller (probably < 15gb) on the onboard controller.
i have seen what you describe occur, so i am certain of this solution.
