Hi,

I just downloaded the new camino nightly build and somehow it doesn't seem that shabby compared to safari. I feel like camino is a little bit faster in page rendering but not sure.

So what exactly is going on?

also, how do I enable http pipelining in camino?

STeve.

woah I just tried the nightly build, it is much faster that Safari, and the best feature ever... when your in a different program flash animations don't slow down... and quicktime movies load in tabs even when your not in that tab, i am sending Apple some feedback, Safari would be king if it were like this.

i've been using Camino forever now. i never saw what people thought was so great about Safari. Camino has it beat across the board, IMO.

well first I downloaded the .7 version and that sucked... but the nightly build is sweet.

yeah really, further usage proves that it kicks safari's ass.

The speed is really amazing, I did not know it could be that much faster than safari.

and when you close all tabs so only one page is showing, in safari the page becomes smaller (the bottom inches up a bit) very annoying because you need to resize the window.

    no such problem with camino.

and camino's got ever feature safari has so, what's the deal with safari anyway? I guess people blindly believe in apple too much sometimes.

Camino is really great but it lacks some features that its bigger brother Firebird have got. The click-and-hold for right-click function in Firebird is sooo useful.

[EDIT: Changed "double-click" to intended "right-click". Doooh!]

Does anyone know how the Camino development is coming along? When Dave Hyatt left ship I heard development slowed to a crawl. How many people are working on the project these days?

There's an option in Safari's preferences called something like Always Show Tab Bar that will sort you out.

As for Camino's progress, it kept chugging for a while after Dave Hyatt left and Mike Pinkerton took over but then for one reason or another they didn't do an actual release for a long time, though the nighty builds have been coming along in fits and starts.

Luckily Mike Pinkerton seems to have caught his second wind and got a few interested developers working on stuff. I'd say the future looks bright even given the crowded (and high quality) browser market on the Mac these days.

STOP THE PRESSES!! Accidentally, I just discovered that Camino have got the click-and-hold to right-click function. It just takes longer than Firebirds inplementation to kick-in. Gosh! Then I can join this here lovefest by saying that "I luv Camino too". Now where is that Mike Pinkerton guy when you want to hug him??

It appears the the click-and-hold feature was just recently added to the nightly builds. It works really great I think, and the extra time it takes in Camino (as in comparing it to Firebird) is really good too. It makes it harder to accidentally activate it.

As far as I know, Camino doesn't have the "reset" function that Safari offers.

Also, I think Safari is more efficient about using screen space, as the progress bar (or whatever it's called) underlies the address block, rather than taking space at the bottom of the screen.

    I do prefer Camino, however.

Back to the Jaguar days Camino was faster than Safari. Now in Panther the result is reversed. I even run the latest nightly build

Is it just me or what?

Well the reason I use Safari is that I can close tabs with a a single click. With Camino and Firebird I have to hold down the control key and navigate the contextual menu - YUK.

    What is the reset function?

In safari, if you turn on the view status bar, it takes up exactly the same amount of space as in camino so you're really not changing anything, and the status bar is very important, no? I mean, I always need it.

That's kinda weird because on my system camino is actually quite a bit faster and very noticeably so.

    What mac you got?
