Hey everyone,

Has anyone of you been successful in trying to compile the Macintosh port of the KDE ( http://kde.opendarwin.org ) on Panther (OS X 10.3.2, to be presizely)?

I installed the binaries, but kdeinit crashed everytime, so I deceided to d/l the sources and build the KDE myself. Unfortunately, on my machine, the configure-kde tool is failing when running it. Drops out when trying to call the C++ precompiler...

Greetings,

durandal

I haven't under 3.2 but I remember trying to build KDE last Fall under 10.3. There were unresolved dependencies no matter what I did. I ended up installing from Fink and that worked (except for no sound).

    ?

Why would you want to do this, other than because you have too much free time? Planning on porting KDE apps to Panther?

I spent last semester learning Linux programming in KDE. As such, I wanted to be able to work on my projects from anywhere, not just on PCs at school. Also, KDE isn't that bad comparatively. In other words, don't knock it 'til you try it.

KDE is neat... I have not used it under OSX -- lack of a computer running OSX is the reason.

However, I do use it from time to time on my linux box. Started using KDE when I first got into linux and loved every bit of it... but then I got a little more hard-core and switched to WindowMaker (the one that is modeled after NextStep). WM was cool for a bit but I moved to Dropline Gnome (Gnome made just for Slackware Linux) and I love it.

    Do you program with Qt?

Umm.... this is totally different. AFAIK, the only KDE on fink uses X11. The topic of this thread is regarding native KDE.

No, KDE needs the X11 libraries in order to compile. Otherwise, Apple wouldn't be shipping their own X11 window manager (in utilities folder in Panther).

    Wrong.

The native KDE port uses qt-mac to draw the 'windows.' You are thinking of KDE running on xfree86 (X11 or x-windows). KDE only needs the X11 libraries to compile if you plan on running it through X11.

I suggest you look at the following site:
