Kerry overtakes Dean in all NH polls, Clark trails a close 3rd
http://www.americanresearchgroup.com/nhpoll/demtrack/
Kerry 27
Dean 22
Clark 19
Kerry is up by 10 points in a Boston Herald poll today, and in this ARG poll, he's up by 5 points. The Dean balloon is deflating fast and most people look to tonight's debate as being key for the 3 front-running candidates.
Kerry's campaign in NH had been declared dead months ago, but has seen a lot of new energy with his Iowa victory. If he does poor in the debate, however, he could lose some of that soft support.
It is also critical for Howard Dean to regain lost ground with a strong showing in the debate tonight. If Dean does not come in at least 2nd in NH, he is expected to withdraw from the race.
Finally, this is also a very important debate for Wesley Clark. Both Clark and Lieberman chose to skip the Iowa Caucuses to campaign in NH, and all it has done for Lieberman so far is 6% in the polls. NH isn't as essential for Clark as this is his first state he's running in, but if he wants to keep momentum up for his campaign, he really needs to overtake Howard Dean and finish second or higher.

Comments
Kerry seemed almost ashamed to have voted against the DOMA in 1996, as if it was some unpleasant chore. So fuck Kerry.
Thank you,
Fellows
Even if Kerry wins NH, it's hard for me to see how he goes on from there. He's in Kucinich territory in the polls in many of the post-NH states like SC, OK, and AZ. Clark seems to be doing best in the polls in those states, and if Dean loses both Iowa and NH it's hard to see him maintaining high numbers those later states. But now I wonder if Kerry will get a big bounce if he wins both Iowa and NH, and then go on to be competitive in those states too. Could it be a Kerry-Clark fight through to the nomination.
Fran: I know you've seen some of Clark's speeches - how does he do? I've heard some comments about his lack of campaigning experience really showing in his events, that he's not so great with a crowd like the others. Do you get this sense too?

Debate tonight? Does anyone know what network(s) may cover this debate?
Thank you,

foxnews was the only cabal....er....i mean cable station that appears to be covering it. nightline will do an hour special with carefully extracted sound bites, (so be good dr. dean!) and i'm sure the daily show will trump them all, but you'll have to wait 'til tomorrow night for that.
At the top it says:
John Kerry delivered a major speech in Nashua, New Hampshire today to unveil his plan to end the domination of special interests in the White House.

The debate is being held by WMUR in NH. It's a local ABC affiliate and one of the states two 'big' television stations (the other being WNDS, an indpendent station).
I guess Fox News is broadcasting it on cable, but it's not a Fox News debate.

It's a two-way street, isn't it?
It would be Bush/Powell all over again

People who run for the nomination are almost never made VPs, but every election season people talk about it.
Is that so ... mmm ... so far for my prediction i guess ... it's the first time i somewhat try to keep up with US presidential primaries (or even elections) so i'm allowed to make stupid bets

Mmm...you could be right...however, i'm afraid Clark still has a thing or two to learn and that he won't b able to turn it up another few notches when the time is there.

Huh?
How many of the following were going for the nomination that year and then became the running mate?
2000: Cheney - no, Lieberman - no.
1996: Kemp - no.
1992: Gore - no.
1988: Quayle - no, Bentsen - no.
1984: Ferraro - no.
1980: Bush - yes (the only one I know of).
1976: Mondale - no.
I don't know much about what happened before that, maybe it was more common in the past. But it doesn't seem to happen any more.
