Sound Sticks. Wow.
Today, when I was looking at the new iMac (for the third day in a row) at our local Comp Usa, I impulsively picked up Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks (Along with a Logitech Dual Optical, and Alien VS. Predator). Anyways, they have to be the most impressive sounding speakers I have heard, except for the very VERY expensive home theaters. They get much louder than I expected they could, and have already gotten yelled at by my parents for them being too loud at less than half volume. Comparing side by side on the new iMac, the highs sounded much better one the Sound Sticks. I was not able to compare the low end, as they did not have an iSub hooked up, but I would definately encourage anyone who can afford them to consider picking them up... <End shameless plug here)

The sound sticks are the first speakers I've ever seen that could be mistaken for sex toys.

i found their looks to be appealing and took them for a test drive at CompUSA. Hopefully I just experienced a set of overused and possible blown soundsticks but they sounded muddy, fuzzy, and downright crappy. If anyone actually has these and has used them for an exteded period of time, please post your comments.

That was my exact impression from hearing them at a CompUSA. You really need to sit in front of them, without all that ambient noise. They sound a lot better than what you heard. I've had mine for a while now. Unless you seriously mistreat and abuse your speakers, they'll sound good for years.
the sound quality can be had for much less.
they are very good but should have seen a price cut a year ago.
Lets compare.
In one corner we have the Soundsticks

Pretty good speakers, neat design... if you like using dildos as your speakers. Im not sure what the wattage is on these but I doubt its higher than 100watts. If that.
Then in the other corner for the very same price we have these.

Packing 400Watts of pure gut trembling sound. Sure you may not need it. But for the same damn price why the hell not?
Then again if your a real man craving real sound you go for these bad boys.

Its called an Amp. Theyre pretty neat
A friend of mine has a 5 speakers setup on an LCIII.
[quote]so why get comp speakers for a stereo system?

Ummmmmm. Why not get comp speakers that are designed for a comp. Sure on your mac you wont get 5.1 Dolby Surround. Unless you get a box like this

MHZ myth aint nothing compared tho the watts myth.
For instance, today I bought a very cheap 2.1 system that claimed to have 600 watts PMPO (Peak Music Power Output), which was smacked over half the front of the box. Looking through the instruction manual, I see 3W RMS. Anyways they met the purpose so Im happy.

I've bought soundsticks 3 days before I had PowerMac G4 cube. The sound quality is highly depended on the driver, I had the soundstick connected to my Cube since MacOS 9.1, one or two quicktime update and operating system update to MacOS 9.2.2. each and every up date, it makes the sound quality different. And it sounds best when it was connected to MacOS X 10.1.3 running Mac.
You can try the song #15 and song #16 in the OST of Mission Impossible II. It's amazing that a computer USB speaker has the sound quality like a very high-end stereo.

Okay now im gettin' ya. Whats your definition of real speakers. I meen I guess you could blow a couple g's on some mad speaker system, like a full blown home theater system. But why? Its a computer I dont know if you need to spend that much.

True, true. Buts its not like the Logitech Z-560s, or the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 are chinsey crap speakers. They are pretty bad ass, and are sure to make the neighbors angry when you wake em up at 3am playing some Project Wyze.
